Were having a baby, my baby and me
You’ll read it in Winchell’s
That we’re adding a limb to our family tree
We’re pushing our carriage
How proud I will be
There’s nothing like marriage
Ask your mother and father and they’ll agree…Our future gets brighter
But definitely
We’re having a baby
We’re having a baby
We’re having a baby
My baby and me~Desi Arnaz lyrics…
Twenty years ago,
on September 15th, we had a little bitty baby…and I mean little
bitty. She arrived 6 weeks early
weighing 4 pounds and some ounces but lost the ounces at birth. We had our names all picked out and were
delighted when then said…”It’s a girl!“ I
was in and out of it because of the emergency c-section, but enough with it to hear that and catch a glimpse of her. My husband kept a little diary of the week in the hospital I was transfered to by ambulance
preceding this grand event as I had been in the hospital since the Labor Day
weekend. Things were real touch and go
as I had full-blown eclampsia and at one point David was told he might need to
choose…baby or mom. Ughhhh……David was
22 and facing a real crisis but he was my hero and stood firm trusting the Lord. He never left me….sleeping in the lounge or in the chair in my room.
Finally, after the meeting of the medical minds, it was decided I needed an
emergency c-section. David was given a
tour of the neo-natal ICU where all the severe cases end up. Thankfully….our little sweetie was just
missing some weight and some fat cells…otherwise she was just fine. She landed in the intermediate neo-natal
nursery and stayed there one week until we could have her transferred to our
hometown hospital where she spent 2 weeks trying to reach 5 pounds. We named her
Elisabeth Zoe…..Promised by God…Spiritual life. One of the nurses in the first hospital told us she was a little
fighter, so full of life. Uh-huh….names
are so important aren’t they?So 20 years later
we celebrated once again our beautiful miracle from God.We got together
with our good friends the J family and their 9 children. We made our own pizzas while Mr. J manned the bake oven and the kids played their infamous game of baseball and they
even jumped rope!!! (A lot of them at once!) We brought our
pup, Melvin, who we adopted from a rescue organization.
If you look real closely you can see the rope on the far right at Jessica’s shoes..Grammy and Pop Pop
were there as well and we spent a beautiful fall afternoon together eating and
laughing and celebrating all God’s goodness. The birthday girl
happens to be the baker in the family so she ended up making her cake(s). She made our favorite…from an Anne of Green
Gables cookbook called Anne’s Liniment Cake and then she made a most delicious
chocolate fudge cake…WOW! I am limited
to how much chocolate I can have but I did manage a little piece of this one. While it was not a
huge gathering, it was her request to celebrate with the J family as a kind of
thank you to them for all they have done for her and especially for making this
year’s bake oven for her. See her post
on the recent festival for more explanation.A perfect day.
Happy 20th
Birthday to our all grown up little girl!

Hi Susan!
Congrats on your “new” arrival… she was definitely a blessing from God!
I was reading on subscriptions, and couldn’t see the pic’s until I came to the sight. What a laugh I had… I thought I’d see Melvin along with the “He begged to be tied up” line, but alas it was a darling boy! Too funny!
Have a great week!
Kim

Mrs. Susan,
Awww… sounds like a wonderful birthday!!! She’s a beautiful and very sweet looking girl. Praise God for keeping you both 20 years ago… that must’ve been a hard time!
RYC: Thanks so much for your empathetic words concerning my site! I appreciate it very much!
One suggestion I thought might be helpful for you as you write your blog (since you shared about a frustration of your blog getting erased)… something I do that is very helpful…. is that I save my post under “private” and I just keep working on it until I’m done at which time I change it to “public” and update the time stamp. Maybe you already know this… but just in case you don’t, I thought I’d share it! : )
Have a blessed day!
Love,
Lea
Happy Birthday to Elizabeth! Such a sweet story.
Blessings,
Sheri
